The Lake County NAACP is hosting its third annual Juneteenth Celebration from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 15 at Veterans Park in Painesville.
Activities will include the celebration and presentation of the 2024 NAACP Lake County High School scholarship winners, according to a news release. Other activities include basket raffles, public chess matches versus law enforcement, kids activity tent, live entertainment, food trucks, business vendors, American Red Cross, and health screenings by the Lake Erie College PA program.
Winners of the 2024 Maltz Jewish Heritage Center “Stop the Hate” contest will orate their essays. The Painesville Mass Community Choir will perform under the direction of Toreria Cooper, and “Lift Every Voice and Sing” will be performed by Craig and Sonia Sams, the release stated.
Activities for children include: games, learning line dances with NAACP youth, face painting, and a magician, and there will be a Juneteenth Art Contest for children ages 8–14. Sign up for the art contest at the Lake County NAACP Facebook events page or contact alisabeamer@yahoo.com.
The Red Raiders Garden @ Elm will be handing out free tomato and flower plants to all children to plant in their own gardens along with community garden information.
