Lake Metroparks’ annual Wildlife Festival is coming July 14, from noon to 4 p.m., at Penitentiary Glen Reservation, 8668 Kirtland Chardon Road in Kirtland..
In support of the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center’s mission to rehabilitate injured and orphaned animals, this year’s festival boasts a “Sensitive Species” theme, promising a deep dive into some of Ohio’s most vulnerable species and the many threats wildlife face in today’s ever-changing environment, according to a news release.
Several furry and feathery animal ambassadors will be featured during live animal training and enrichment sessions. Guests can also experience an all-new exhibit displaying artwork made by some of the Wildlife Center’s resident animals, the release stated. Artwork will then be raffled off at the end of the event.
“It’s so important that everyone realizes that they can play a vital role in protecting and preserving Earth’s most fragile species,” Lake Metroparks’ Wildlife Care Assistant Manager Traci Keller stated in the release. “We have a variety of fun activities planned for all ages highlighting some special critters that inhabit wetlands, forests and pollinator gardens, to name a few.
“We hope everyone will learn a bit more about these species and how they can provide safe spaces for them in their own backyards.”
Attendees can participate in a scavenger hunt and prize drawings as well as various other hands-on activities and interactive exhibits, including a conservation station where they can learn about recent wildlife research conducted by local organizations.
