The Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Ohio Grape Industries Council will contract with Great Lakes Publishing Co. to provide marketing and promotion materials for Ohio’s wine industry, according to a news release.

State Rep. Daniel P. Troy (D-Willowick) announced the $100,735 in state funding in a news release.

“I am pleased to announce this funding to help promote our outstanding Ohio wine industry,” Troy said. “According to a 2016 economic impact study, with only 265 wineries at the time, the industry added $1.31 billion to Ohio’s economy and more than 8,000 full-time jobs. This investment will provide a return in quality of life and tax revenue.”

Lake County includes much of Ohio’s Grand River Valley. Funding will provide cooperative print advertising in various 2024 and 2025 issues of Cleveland Magazine and Ohio Magazine, a cooperative photography program, TourismOhio App Sponsorship, TourismOhio Travel Planner Map, Sip magazine creation and Ohio Wine Guide design and insertion into Sip magazine.

According to the release, Troy serves as the ranking member of the Finance Subcommittee on Agriculture, Development, and Natural Resources. The Department of Agriculture reports to this committee, and Troy advocated for this proposal in last year’s Operating Budget.

He has long been considered one of the stronger supporters of Ohio’s growing wine industry.
