Earth, Air, Fire & Water: Art & the Four Elements Spring Art Show
By: Angela Schaal
Lake Metroparks presents “Earth, Air, Fire & Water: Art & the Four Elements,” a spring art show featuring a unique curation of paintings, illustrations, metal work and more that highlight the natural beauty of earth, air, fire and water. The exhibition will be on display at Penitentiary Glen Nature Center from Saturday, March 15 through Sunday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Ancient Greeks believed that all matter was made of four elements: earth, air, fire and water. Artists throughout the ages have expressed the power and innate beauty of these elements in their work, and this show provides an opportunity to discover how today’s artists are interpreting those same classic concepts and natural elements in a modern way.
The show will feature various materials and artists, including:
Christine Allchin—quilts, jewelry, paintings
Judy Hoppert—graphite, pen & ink, encaustic
Rosalind C. Hughes—metal work
Margaret Li—digital illustration, ink, paint
Martina Matthews—paper collage, jewelry, watercolors
Manitu Okahas—mixed media, dreamcatchers, jewelry, baskets, clothing
Reese Oress—multimedia
Kate Pennington—paintings in acrylic and oil
Angela Schaal—paintings in acrylic and oil
Christine Siarka—mixed media, collage, clay
Meet and talk with the artists at an opening reception on Saturday, March 15 from noon to 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. No registration required.
Displayed artwork will be available for purchase. Admission is free. For more information, call 440-256-1404 or visit goto.lakemetroparks.com/springartshow.
