1,500 turn out at Lake Metroparks Farmpark to view eclipse - CLE Jewish News
While the “main event” took place in the sky, there were plenty of spaced-themed activities to enjoy and animals to visit leading up to the total solar eclipse on April 8 at the Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Kirtland.
Typically closed on Mondays, the Farmpark opened its grounds and barns to the public as 1,567 people came to watch the eclipse and partake in all the fun.
Visitors made their way to various stations from decorating their free eclipse glasses in the Plant Science Center to a space race obstacle course by the arena.
Inside the visitor center, planetarium shows and presentations took place throughout the morning and early afternoon. Presentations were “Odd Observations: Nature’s response to an eclipse”; “Critter Confusion: How wild animals handle an eclipse”; and a live animal show.
Visitors also made their way to the Barnyard, the Well Bred Shed, Arena and Dairy Parlor to see goats, pigs, sheep, rabbits, horses and cows.
As totality neared, families settled around the playground and grassy hillsides to watch as the moon blocked the sun, revealing the sun’s corona and casting the Farmpark into a mid-day darkness.
