MENTOR, Ohio – The city of Mentor is seeking chefs who want to compete in the upcoming Mentor Chill Out’s chili cookoff.

The cookoff is not exclusive to Mentor businesses or residents, organizers said.

The winter fest is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Mentor Civic Center Park.

The cookoff is slated from 1 to 2 p.m. Votes will be tallied at 2 p.m., and winners will be announced soon after with awards for people’s choice, judges’ choice and most festive display.

The competition is open to community members including restaurants/bars, civic groups and individuals. Space is limited to 12 participants. Those vying to be Mentor Chilly Chili champion are asked to bring two to three gallons of chili as well as toppings, chips and more to decorate tables.

Canopy, table, chairs, electricity, sample cups and spoons will be provided. Set-up begins at 11 a.m.
