Milk and Honey Weekend

Explore the delightful worlds of milk and honey August 17 & 18 at Lake Metroparks Farmpark. Milk & Honey Weekend, presented by Renewal by Andersen and Playground World provides a unique assortment of dairy- and bee-themed activities to illustrate how many of the foods and products we consume every day are truly brought from farm to table.

“Farmpark’s mission is to provide a connection to our agricultural roots while helping people understand where our food and clothing come from,” explains Lake Metroparks Farmpark Event Manager Andy McGovern. “This event provides a fun way for people of all ages to learn how important pollinators are to our food supply and how many products are created using milk and honey,” McGovern adds.

Educational programs demonstrating hands-on and machine milking, cream separating, ice cream making and cheesemaking will show how some of our favorite foods are made the old-fashioned way — by hand! Guests can sample freshly made treats in addition to various cheeses manufactured by Middlefield Original Cheese Co-op, a locally owned and operated co-op that uses milk collected at Farmpark in the production of their products.

Beekeeper chats and honey harvesting demonstrations are also included in the event’s itinerary, providing attendees the chance to learn more about the process of pollination and the important roles bees and pollinator-friendly plants play. Packaged ice cream, cheese and honey products will be available for purchase at the event.

Attendees can participate in a scavenger hunt and self-guided trail tour as well as various other hands-on activities and interactive exhibits, including a hydroponics talk where they can learn about the technique of growing plants using water and nutrient solutions rather than soil. Other popular Farmpark attractions such as animal encounters, horse shows and wagon rides will also be available for guests to enjoy. Pony rides ($6) will be offered, weather permitting.

Farmpark admission ($7–$9) or membership applies. For event information, visit goto.lakemetroparks.com/milk-honey-weekend.

Lake Metroparks Farmpark is located at 8800 Euclid Chardon Road in Kirtland.
