Super Star Party: Cosmic Mysteries with Lake Metroparks

Space lovers of all ages are invited to explore mysteries beyond our atmosphere at Lake Metroparks’ annual Super Star Party, presented by Sylvan Learning of Mentor. The event will take place on Saturday, August 10 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Penitentiary Glen Reservation.

This year’s event boasts a “Cosmic Mysteries” theme, promising investigation into some of our galaxy’s most perplexing questions. What is dark matter? Are black holes real? Do aliens exist? From intergalactic games to extraterrestrial crafts, there will be a variety of engaging activities— indoor planetarium shows, stargazing, guided night hikes, astronomical presentations and more—for all members of the family to enjoy.

Guests will also have the opportunity to examine the night sky with telescopes provided by the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society. Constellations and other celestial objects can be observed in the StarLab portable planetarium.

"This event is a fun way for families to experience the wonders of space and have the opportunity to see stars, planets and other space objects up close," explains Lake Metroparks Nature Center Interpretive Manager Kristin Snider. "With activities and games created for the whole family, it’s a great way to learn about different aspects of nature they may not get a lot of chances to learn about, while having fun at the same time."

Interactive scavenger hunts, photo opportunities and wild animal shows starring animal ambassadors from the Lake Metroparks Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center will also be featured throughout the event. Snacks, soda and special glow-in-the-dark and space-themed merchandise will be available for purchase in the Nature Store.

Miniature train rides will be offered courtesy of the Lake Shore Live Steamers, weather permitting. Ride departure is within the hour time slot selected during registration. For safety reasons, pregnant women are not permitted to ride the trains. All children must be able to sit in their own designated seat; lap sitting is not permitted.

Registration is required for all guests; tickets provide access to all activities offered throughout the evening. Tickets for adults and children ages 2 and older are $8. Children younger than 2 are admitted free. All outdoor activities are weather permitting.
